The Health Benefits of Almonds:

Almonds are one of our earliest cultivated foods, and are thought to have originated in central Asia. Almonds are delicious and the health benefits are numerous.

A real powerhouse snack, in a 1/4 cup of almonds there is around 15% of the RDA for protein, around 7grams. This is a food to be taken with you on any outdoor activity, especially if going on a long walk or hiking.

Almonds can play an important part in many processes in the human body,

Being one of our most alkaline nuts, almonds can help to stabilise the acid alkaline balance in our body.

Almonds are good for our Heart Health

Almonds contain a good number of nutrients that help in the health of our hearts. Almonds contain good amounts of monosaturated fats and Vitamin E, potassium, calcium and magnesium.

The fats are known to lower LDL cholesterol levels which is the cholesterol that causes harm. Vitamin E is an antioxidant which has been well researched and is known to benefit heart function. The magnesium is supportive or smooth muscle tissue, and helps with heart function, and maintaining the integrity of veins and arteries, so supporting the flow of blood and nutrients to all parts of the body. Calcium is a supportive mineral and helps to maintain a regular blood pressure and helps to regulate the body’s blood clotting function.

Maintaining Sugar Levels

Almonds help to maintain stable blood sugar levels, and can help to stabilise a rise in blood sugars when consuming high carb foods. I make my own bread, and I always add a cup of almond meal to the recipe. Gives the bread a good texture and flavour, and of course adds to the protein of the bread.

Almonds are a very good source of protein, containing around 7grams in 1/4 cup of almonds. This is around 15% of the RDA. And of course it contains no cholesterol. Consuming a handful in between meals is a great way to help keep your metabolism kicking along, and to help prevent that afternoon fatigue.

Almonds contain good levels of many vitamins and minerals, and amino acids . Overall a great snack food.

Almond Oil is used in many skin care creams and hair care product.

Do yourself a favour and add some almonds to your daily intake of food. (Providing there are no allergies of course)

Use Almond Milk instead of cow milk. It is delicious! Sprinkle almond meal onto cereals and add it to your baking. Spread your bread or toast with almond butter.
